E.G. Reel

Reel Lumber Service is a southern California family business, established in 1932, and is now in its fourth generation. In the middle of the great depression E.G. Reel borrowed $3,000 from his wife Thelma Reinhart and with that investment he founded Reel Lumber Service. E.G. Reel opened a small lumber yard on 63rd Street in Los Angeles. As his two sons, Don and Gil, finished school and military service, they became active in the business and moved Reel Lumber Service from Los Angeles to Anaheim in 1976. In the 1970s and 1980s Don Reel’s three daughters Linda, Shirley and Doreen all joined the RLS team.

In 1982, we added lumber milling machinery and Regal Custom Millwork was established adjacent to the Anaheim yard. Regal Mill now provides lumber milling services and custom details to our customers’ specifications, as well as milling and manufacturing lumber and stock mouldings for Reel Lumber Service. And a large shed on the property – our Will Call Department – was open to our customers.

Gil, E.G., Don Reel

In 1986, RLS purchased “Sawdust & Shavings” a 14-year-old retail lumber store in Riverside. This acquisition began our first Reel entry into the Retail and Do-It-Yourself markets. Three years later, in 1989, the Anaheim Will Call function was expanded and developed into a full-blown lumber store at our present location on Kraemer Boulevard in Anaheim. In the late 1980’s Shirley Reel Cadwell became CEO of Reel Lumber Service.

In 2014, the receiving and delivery yard moved from Anaheim to its present location in Corona, CA. And in 2019, we moved the mill to our new property south of Corona in Temescal Valley.

The industry – and Reel Lumber Service – have seen many changes over the years, but we believe there is much promise for the future. Reel Lumber Service and Regal Custom Millwork continue – as the fourth generation of the Reel family, Cousins Danny Reel-Clark and Samantha Reel-Cadwell, are now involved in the business.

From a small lumberyard in 1932 stocking 10 species of lumber, Reel Lumber Service has grown to four locations, stocking over 40 species of lumber. And we now offer a full selection of mouldings, plywood and sheet goods, as well as a number of finishing materials, tools and other related items. Whether you are a woodworking professional or hobbyist, our goal at Reel Lumber Service is to provide you with the best quality products available and match it with personalized service. Our knowledgeable sales staff will gladly call at your location or respond promptly to your telephone, email or social media inquiries. Visit our stores in Anaheim or Riverside to hand select your material, or we will carefully pick the order for you. We will deliver it to your location or job site – or you may will-call at one of our locations, where you’ll find a large selection of related items that will help to meet your woodworking needs.
